I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years experience providing psychological and behavioral treatments for drug and alcohol abuse/dependence, depression and anxiety, including responses to trauma, sexual concerns, interpersonal conflicts, workplace and academic difficulties, and life transition counseling (divorce, bereavement, career changes). I offer a strong specialty in addictive and compulsive behaviors, with an extensive background in treating substance abuse and chemical dependence, as well as bipolar and anxiety disorders including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). I also specialize in psychological assessment (testing) to aid in the diagnostic evaluation of psychopathology, substance use, and screening for neuropsychological dysfunction.
I employ evidence-based practices and empirically-supported treatments in my practice. I am particularly skilled in the use of motivational interviewing (person-centered), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and existential-humanistic approaches with my clients. With clients who have obsessive-compulsive disorder, I combine CBT with exposure and response prevention therapy (E/RP).
Respect, warmth, compassion and acceptance form the foundation for successful therapy. Embracing these qualities, I seek to learn what my clients want out of life (their goals) and then help them achieve those goals. Usual goals include improved insight and self-understanding; more positive and comfortable relationships; healthier behaviors; and greater life satisfaction and meaning.
